How Do I Know If I Am Going To Heaven When I Die?
November 12th, 2008
How do I know if I am going to heaven when I die?
This is the single most important question you will ever ask your self. Jesus said in Mathew 7:13-14 ” “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”
What is the straight gate to heaven and how can we be one of the few that find it? The straight gate is Jesus. Jesus also said “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
Who is Jesus and why is he the way to heaven? Jesus is sinless (has never done wrong) he is part God and part man. He came down to earth to be born of a virgin, to later die by Crucifixion (literally being nailed to a cross after a gruesome beating until death). His death sounds like a bad thing but it was really good he paid the debt we owe to God for our sin ( the wrong things we do).
“Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call His name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.” Matthew 1:23
Why do we have a debt to God for our sin, shouldn’t he just be nice and let everyone into Heaven? God says Heaven is a perfect place, God makes it clear that we don’t deserve to go to Heaven because we have all willingly disobeyed God in Romans 6:23″For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
and here in Romans 3:23″For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”
so God is fair and just like it would be unfair for a judge to let a criminal go with out his debt being paid . It would be unfair for God to let us go to Heaven with out our sins being paid for. We all do wrong and deserve to be tormented for an eternity in Hell. It began in the garden of Eden with Adam and Eve the first man and woman God made who willingly disobeyed God just like we do. Romans 5:11-12 ” we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:”
So how do I get my sin’s paid for so I can go to Heaven? Most people think “If I do some good things once in a while God will surely let me into Heaven”. Ephesians 2:8-9 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
Many people have been tricked into believing that their good works can out weigh their bad ones and that will merit them heaven. The Bible clearly states that this is not true, thats one of the reasons that Jesus said “wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction…”
How can I get to heaven if my good works won’t get me there? This is the easy part the strait and narrow path if you will. Romans 10:13 “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”look also at Acts 3:19 “Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;”
to be even more descriptive the Bible says:
Romans 5:7-10 ” God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.”
Romans 10:9-10″That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
What do I do now? The Bible says to “confess with your mouth” or pray.
I prayed something like this:
God,
Thank you for the gift of Heaven. I know I have done wrong things. I know I cannot save my self from Hell. That’s why I need your son Jesus who died on the cross to pay the debt I owe you. I truly believe he rose from the grave after he was crucified. I now put my trust in you alone that I will go to heaven and I know you have saved me from Hell when I die.
Once you have spoken to God through prayer and truly meant it you don’t need to ask to be saved again you are saved from Hell forever. John 10:30 “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.”
You will still sin after your saved and should ask God to forgive you, you won’t go to hell for sinning but your relationship with God won’t be the same. Just like any father with a child when your child disobeys you you expect him to be sorry and if he isn’t chances are you won’t give him a cookie until he is. You can keep your relationship with God good by obeying him and you can expect since he is a loving father him will provide for your needs. The Bible even says we should ask God to meet our needs and our family’s needs and talk to him directly regularly on our own, thank him for all the wonderful things he has done for you. Matthew 7:11 “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?”
-Here is another verse I love, try it out and let me know what happens this is something that shows me God is real outside of all logic. I pray and ask God to do something secretly and it happens.
” But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. “Matt 6:6
-Also keep this verse in mind when you are praying “Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. James 4:3″ sometimes my prayers don’t get answered because I asked for something selfishly that was not best for me, just like your children may ask you for ice cream ten times a day and you don’t give it to them every time because you know it’s not good for them. God knows what things will destroy us if he gives them to us, he knows what is good for us and as a loving father only wants the best for us. Sometimes I don’t understand everything that happens right when it is happening and then later I find out that God knew exactly what I needed. Sometimes I need a good humbling to remind me how good God is!
-BAPTISM
The first step of obedience is baptism as a testimony of your faith. It pictures Jesus dieing going to Hell to pay for our sins and rising again. Acts 8:35 “Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus. And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See,here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.”
-ATTEND A BIBLE BELIEVING CHURCH
If you find a good Bible believing church, (I recommend one that uses the King James Version only, other versions have been distorted) it will help you grow in faith and learn more about god. Hebrews 10:23-25 ” Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”
-BIBLE
Get a King James Version Bible of your own and try to read daily. You can ask God to teach you new things about him and show you how to do what is right. It’s a good idea to keep a journal to write down what you learn every day and write down your prayers and the dates when God answered them.
Acts 17:11 “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”

-I have posted other articles you may like to read about evolution and creation, why do we have death and suffering?, how do we know the Bible is God’s word?…ect
The Bible says we are to be ready always to give an answer to any man that asks, I encourage every Christian to research Evolution so you are able to explain why it is wrong and the Biblical creation is right.
