Jesus Lamb

“Jesus’ Lamb-I have found my sheep which was lost”

water-based oil on canvas

This painting was inspired by these scripture verses.

“Then drew near unto him all the publicans and sinners for to hear him.And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them. And he spake this parable unto them, saying,What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?And when he hath found [it], he layeth [it] on his shoulders, rejoicing And when he cometh home, he calleth together [his] friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost.I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance. Luke 15:1-7
I loved the idea of Jesus putting the lamb on his shoulders and that memory stuck in my head. I love also the thought that Jesus wants to save the most vile sinners, only those who know they have done wrong and are willing to admit they are not good enough to get to heaven with out Jesus can be saved. We have it so backwards often we think it is our own goodness that will get us to heaven. But Jesus makes it clear that it is not “for all have sinned” the Bible tells us.

The color scheme in this painting is also Biblical-from Exodus 39:2 “gold, blue, and purple, and scarlet.” It is so interesting to me to use the color schemes described in the Bible and see how they look.

In the background of this painting we find the cross on the left and the tomb on the right symbolizing Jesus’ death burial and resurrection. Also in this painting we must realize that Jesus was a Jewish man who probably has Jewish features. He was a strong man also, not effeminate like many artist portray him.

He healed the sick, caused the lame to walk, the blind to see and raised the dead. I just heard someone say these things didn’t prove he was God. The fact that he fulfilled the old testament prophecies like Zechariah 12:10 “they shall look upon me whom they have pierced”. Also that Jesus himself was raised from the dead this proves that He is God. If you have not accepted Jesus as your savior none of us knows how long we have left. Today if you believe in Jesus you can pray and admit to God that you have sinned, you deserve hell but you want to be saved.

These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. 1 John 5:13
