Why Am I Depressed

I have heard people talk about being depressed frequently over the years. Some were Christian and some were not. Before I became a Christian I became depressed at times like most other people. If you are not a Christian life can seem scary, you do not understand a lot of the pain, suffering and death around you. You do not know how it will turn out in the end. As a non believer I realized I had done wrong and did not know how to make it right, that gives a lot of pressure too. One day after hearing that Jesus could save me from hell and my sins could be forgiven I came to God broken over my sins and the thought of actually going to hell. I prayed and asked Jesus-God to save me and forgive me. I know that day God saved my soul and he can save yours as well if you will ask him.

Now I find great hope in knowing I am saved through Jesus Christs death on the cross. Every thing that happens to me is part of his plan for my life, and in the end I will end up with God in a place more wonderful than paradise. This really calms your fears, not to mention when things get tough I have a “Wonderful Counselor” God himself. Some of the times I draw closest to God is during struggles. It makes me want and need to pray, then I get to see him work, it is great!

If you are a Christian who is depressed simply talking and sharing your faith with unsaved people, praying or  confessing”faults” to other Christians can help with the growing process and relieve depression. Christians are soposed to be joyful, so if we are sad a lot maybe there is something we need to get right with God. Maybe we just need to be sharing the gospel with others. God often gives us counsel and deepens our faith in him through us sharing our faith with the unsaved world. God works through soul-winning and it is amazing the things he can do if we step out on faith to tell others about  Jesus. I just heard an evangelist say “Jesus said “follow me and I will make you fishers of men”, we can not follow Jesus unless we are soul-winning.  The Bible also says “he that winneth souls is wise” so he that does not win souls is not wise. It is depressing to know that people around us are hurting and we can help them by telling them about Jesus but we are too scarred. People want to know how they can have peace with God, good families, joy, peace, success in life, and what comes after death. It brings joy to our own hearts when we can tell them Jesus died for them, they can be saved and he will give them purpose and direction in their life.

“Deceit [is] in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counsellors of peace [is] joy. “Proverbs 12:20
