When should I get baptized?
When should I get baptized? Just about every time I share the gospel with someone this question comes up some where in the conversation. This should not come as any shock, the Bible gives us the answer! In the Bible I never have found one infant baptism. This practice is not scriptural at all….
It often leaves a person with a false sense of security, they think they are going to heaven because they were baptized but have never been “born again” as the Bible says. In order to be born again we must understand ourselves that we are sinners, and that we deserve hell. But because God loves us and wants us in heaven God who is Jesus died on the cross to save us from hell. Then we need to ask God to save us, repent.“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved” Acts 16:31 This is being “Born again”, your having a spiritual birth. I was telling someone this verse the other day “He came unto his own, and his own received him not.But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, [even] to them that believe on his name:” John 1:11-12 When we are accepting his salvation through prayer and believing on his name and what he did for us to get us to heaven alone, this makes us a child of God. Baptism should only come after one truly understands and accepts Jesus as their savior. Not as a baby because their parents feel it is a good idea, or even as a young adult because it is a church tradition, but only after true repentance. “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins” Acts 2:38 Also this should be done quickly after they have repented by making a confession or praying for salvation, “with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Romans 10:10. My young daughters just asked Jesus to save them genuinely last Monday. They have heard the gospel (that Jesus died for their sins) thousands of times from our sharing it with other people. Last week we happened to be walking past a cemetery and a person was being buried. When we got home they asked a lot of questions and said they were not really sure if they had believed in their hearts before when they had asked. This time they were sincere and they asked Jesus earnestly to save them from hell. They were both baptized (Full-submersion) last Sunday! They fully understood that they were saved and wanted to show others by their baptism. But they were not saved because of their baptism. I am glad we waited until they understood, repented and were truly saved before baptizing our children. If you were baptized as a baby and are relying on that to get you to heaven, you need to truly repent to be saved. I was also in this boat and four years ago truly accepted Jesus as my savior by praying and asking him to save me from hell, recognizing what he did for me. I was then baptized full-submersion like the Bible says. For more information about how to know if you going to heaven visit:
