Body Language

Just like we have recently seen with our president and his group photograph. Body language effects much of our daily lives it is amazing that most of our conversation takes place with just the manner in which we hold our bodies. Being a figurative painter I focus on peoples body language a lot. When I first began painting figures in a picture, I knew what I wanted to paint and the idea I want to portray but the body language in my painting was not right. This would make the whole picture off. The same goes for human relations. Body language means a lot to people, either in your painting or in life in general. Here are some examples of paintings where the body language is off and these paintings were ruined because of it.

In this painting it looks like the traveler is giving the cold shoulder.

This painting has figures not responding to their setting in a realistic way

In this painting the figure has closed eyes yet has something of interest in her hands. It is almost humorous now but at the time I just could not figure out how to get the painting to look right. Now for some examples of figures who are responding well to their setting.

The elephants playing and birds flying away is natural.

This couple standing close to each other demonstrating their love for each other fits.

This woman has a lonely unwholesome look to her.

This guy is pretty goofy, but the picture fits.

This baby your looking up at you with drool showing its need and helplessness, good body

language for a baby.

This lion is standing above every thing showing his dominance, which also makes sense.

Again body language tells a lot to people about a painting, we need to pay attention to how our paintings are portraying the figures. If they do not have the right body language the picture is ruined. The same goes for reaching people with the gospel. When your talking to people and sharing your testimony about Christ with them make sure your body is open. Arms at your sides shows more openness than crossed arms a lot of the time. Feet strait, standing upright shows more stability than feet twisted up. Hands on your hips seems to be offensive, slouching around shows disinterest, lack of eye contact shows a lack of honesty…and the list goes on. We all need to be aware of these things “That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour; ” 1 Thessalonians 4:4.

Lastly I wanted to mention the body language presented by our Lord Jesus Christ. He suffered shame and reproach “He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. ” Isaiah 53:7. He did not try to defend himself through he would be right in doing so. We are told “But he [was] wounded for our transgressions, [he was] bruised for our iniquities:.. with his stripes we are healed.”Isaiah 53:5 Why did Yeshua-Jesus not fight back? He was the sacrificial offering for the sins of the whole world.

“they shall look upon me whom they have pierced” Zechariah 12:10 We are told he hung there on that cross after they pierced him until he died with others watching, some even still mocking him. He showed by his body language nothing but love for the whole world. He died on that cross for you. If you have not asked him to save you and take you to heaven. Jesus has open arms and will accept you no matter what you have done, all you need to do is open your heart and ask. Many of those same people who mocked him later accepted him as their Messiah, and you can too. “whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. ” Romans 10:13
