“Israel Mount Moriah Calvary Painting” “he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:” John 19:17
This Israel Mount Moriah Calvary Painting was heavily influenced by studying the Bible. I read rescently about “when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left.” Luke 23. and also “he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:” John 19:17 This made me picture where Jesus was crucified with people watching on top of the place of the skull. I looked at pictures to get a good idea about what it looked like and read the passages pertaining to this over again until I finally arrived at this!
I found some wonderful information about Mount Calvary, Mount Moriah and the place of the skull while studying for this painting. Mount Calvary was apparently the same place the stones were taken for Solomon’s temple. The stones were quarried from the western side of the same mountain Yeshua was crucified at. Yet they were carved at the site and never was any instrument used to cut any stones any where but there. This is an interesting type of Yeshua (Jesus Christ) who died at Calvary for our sins. If we believe on him we become a lively stone cut from Calvary like the stones for Solomon’s temple.“Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.” 1 Peter 2:5
There is a unique connection between Mount Moriah and the Temple Mount with the hill of Calvary where Jesus was crucified. When Solomon built the Temple,, and from underneath the mountain. at the North end The stones quarried to build the temple cut a large gorge, leaving the northernmost portion of the mountain standing alone. In Jesus’ day this portion was called Golgotha, “the place of the skull”! If you go to Jerusalem you can see the cliff where the bottom of the mountain was cut out for stones.
I also learned that the garden tomb where Yeshua was laid is right near this Mt. Calvary like the Bible mentioned. This tomb has actually been checked for any signs of a human body decaying and there was never any found. Further more this tomb was never finished! Something stopped the people from finishing it and laying bodies in it! This must have been the fact that Yeshua was laid there after he was nailed to the cross. Later he rose from the tomb defeating sin and death!“He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.” Matthew 28:6 It is also interesting that Abraham had demonstrated his faith by being willing to offer Isaac on Mount Moriah also. This showed us that God was going to offer his son on the Mount for our sins! Yeshua is Gods son in that he is part of God and came from God. “Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood…Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God..Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son.” Genesis 22. This verse brings it all together “Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world” John 1:29!
