What is the firmament?

We might open the Bible and start reading then we get to Genesis 5 :27 and say “I can’t believe this! People can’t live to be over nine hundred years old!” The Bible says “all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty and nine years: and he died.” Genesis 5:2. How can we believe this? The verses that can often be passed quickly over give us the answer. They describe something called a firmament. “God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters…God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.Genesis 1:6-7.” What is this “Firmament” in verse eight it says “God called the firmament Heaven.”Genesis 1:8. Verse 20 tells us what kind of Heaven it is, “fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.” Genesis 1:20. Firmament means the sky, and what was above the firmament? It says in verse seven, waters which were above the firmament”. What is this telling us? There was actually water above the sky. How would that change the climate of the earth? It would block out dangerous rays from the sun, add to the oxygen pressure, plants, and animals would grow much bigger (dinosaur size)! Rich vegetation would have covered most of the earth, and people could have lived to be great ages even nine hundred and sixty nine years.

What happened to the firmament? The Bible says a great flood covered the earth.  Intelligent men even say there is much evidence that the earth was struck by something. Notice our poles are a little off, the earth has a tilt to it. Could that be what brought this Firmament of water that was above the sky down? Did this cause the catastrophic  floodwhich we still see massive amounts of evidence today? The drastic climate change has shortened the life span of the whole human race to now be no more than one hundred and twenty and often less than that, “behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die. ” Genesis 6.

We have just a short time on this earth, then we are gone. Are you sure you are on your way to heaven? The Bible says “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved” Acts 16:31. You have a requirement in order to get to heaven you must “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ”, not all people will go to heaven, because they have not believed. “He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned”John 3:18. Why do we have to believe on Jesus? Because we “all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”Romans 3:23. Because we all sin we all deserve hell ” all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone:” Revelation 21:8. I am sure you do not want to be condemned to hell. What can you do about it? ” if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. ” Romans 10:9. You can open you heart to God and ask him to save you (confess with your mouth).
