If your looking for a book that will give truth about the history of Christians so you can know why you believe what you believe this is a great source. http://baptistbecause.com/tracts/trailblood.pdf This insert from the book “The trail of blood”. Baptists are not protestant and have never been part of the catholic church as you can see in the chart. This chart shows that there is an unbroken line of baptists churches since Christ. During the dark ages the baptists were called ana-baptists and were bitterly persecuted even to death by the catholic church, after this they dropped the “ana” and were just called baptist. They have been called many different names over the years such as Novations, Montanists, Paulicians, and Waldenese but they started off as Christians who were martyred for Christ. The irregular churches are the churches that have accepted false doctrine. The chart shows how the error began with government, Pastors of larger churches claimed authority over smaller churches not given to them by Christ. Because of this the Roman hierchy was created. This shows again that Baptists were never protestant or Catholic. The Baptists refused to accept infant baptism for a means of salvation. But rather follows as the Bible says ” That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. ” Romans 10:9-10. In order to be saved one must believe in their heart and ask God with their mouth for Jesus to save them. “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. ” Ephesians 2:8-9. Salvation or heaven is a gift, not some thing to be worked to obtain, but to be accepted as a gift. Jesus did the work on the cross for us. “But he [was] wounded for our transgressions, [he was] bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace [was] upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. ” Isaiah 53:5
